It’s not hard to guess the big trends for this season. Toned-down colours, cozy fabrics and coats. Lots of coats.

If there is only one piece of clothing worth the investment this fall, it’s a camel coat. It’s a modern-day, closet-basic cover-up. It’s like owning a white shirt or a pair of well-fitted jeans. It compliments both casual and professional attire. If you’re like me and wear a lot of black in the fall, a camel coat is one way to spice up your look. You can wear camel with any colour in your wardrobe, but you can never go wrong with brown (leather) accessories and animal print (in case you are feeling a bit more adventurous).

As Michael Kors once said: “Camel looks indulgent like winter white but has the pragmatism of grey and black. It’s the best of both worlds. … A camel coat evokes throwaway glamour.”

TIP: Adding white sneakers to a grey and camel ensemble is always a good idea.
