Dating

Ever dated an entrepreneur? Take it from one, let’s just say we’re a different breed. Not everyone can understand or come to love their tendencies, that’s why I’ve put this list together. Here are five things you should know before dating an entrepreneur:

  1. Work extends beyond 9 to 5.
Yes, entrepreneurs can make their own hours, but that doesn’t mean they work 40 hours a week. Some of the hardest working people I know are entrepreneurs. They have skin in the game, they have investors to keep happy and manage all the underpinnings of a business—that’s a lot. No wonder they can’t stop working. Their work will trickle into their weekends and evenings. That’s just the way things go.
  2. Ideas turn us on.
A date filled with brainstorming ideas and talking about the latest trends and inventions will definitely turn your entrepreneur date on. Ideas are like spark plugs for us. Once you give us a taste, we can’t stop. It wouldn’t be the first time an innocent idea shared around a dinner table actually turned into a business idea. Be sure to bring your thinking caps to the date!
  3. Sometimes we bite off more than we can chew.
We have so many ideas and so many people we want to work with that sometimes we take on more than we can handle. But, compared to others, this state of anxiety excites us. We thrive off of tight deadlines because we know we are working towards something exciting. All I can say is buckle your seat belt, it’s going to be a hell of a ride!
  4. We hate Debbie or Don Downers.
When we share an idea with you, don’t tell us we can’t do it. Here’s the thing, entrepreneurs hear the word no all the time. It doesn’t scare us or put us off. But, we don’t want our partners to tell us no either. Instead of giving us all the reasons why something won’t work, just listen and lend us your support. That’s all we want.
  5. We want more out of life.
A white picket fence will not cut it. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. An entrepreneur wants to live an atypical life, which means if you’re looking for safe and comfortable, you’re not going to find it here. According to an entrepreneur, life is meant to be full of risks and adventures.

If this list didn’t scare you, then either you’re an entrepreneur or you can handle dating one. They are precocious and fun-loving. Be patient because they can be sporadic with their time, but once you’ve found the right one, they are the most exciting people you will get to know.
